Winter attack in some parts of Germany: snowfall causes traffic chaos and accidents on the roads

The sudden onset of winter in some regions of Germany caused many car accidents on Monday. The snowfall caused traffic chaos in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate. The German Meteorological Service warns of further snowfall.

There have been several traffic accidents in the Sauerland region. A police spokesman in the Märkischer Kreis district reported nearly 50 collisions, mainly related to the adverse weather conditions. Several people were slightly injured. In other parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, the situation was stable.

Many accidents in Baden-Württemberg

Snowfall also occurred in the Stuttgart area. Cars were caught in skidding. Due to the icy roads, several car crashes occurred. Fortunately, no serious accidents were reported, but three passengers were slightly injured.

Also in the district of Heidenheim, the winter attack led to a number of accidents on the roads. Police report that two cars burst into flames as a result of a collision. The road towards Kempten was closed.

Rainy and cold weather will stay in Germany for longer

According to the German Meteorological Service (DWD), this weather will continue in the coming days. In addition to rain and snow, there will also be strong winds. According to the synoptics, temperatures will not exceed 5 ° C. At night, snow-covered and rain-soaked roads could become slippery. Therefore, drivers should be extra careful.
