As you can read on the website of the Robert Koch Institute (www.rki.de), as of Thursday (3.03.2022), all countries that have been on the list so far will be removed from the list of high-risk areas. “Due to the widespread occurrence of the Omicron variant, it has been shown that the ability of this variant to cause a dangerous disease course is lower compared to the previous predominant variants,” – The Robert Koch Institute explains the decision.
The classification as a risk area follows a joint analysis and decision by the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior.
As of March 3, only countries with variants of the virus will be listed
As of March 3, only countries where new variants of the coronavirus are prevalent will be classified as risk areas. Currently, however, no country is listed as a coronavirus variant area because Omicron is the dominant variant worldwide. The Robert Koch Institute also notes that the risk status may also change in the future in the short term.
Free travel to Germany
This means that there will be almost no more restrictions on travelers – only the 3G rule that travelers must be fully vaccinated, treated or tested for coronavirus still applies when entering Germany. However, unvaccinated individuals and children no longer need to be quarantined for at least five days.
