It’s been and still is freezing in Germany – but the thaw is coming. Climatologist Dr. Karsten Brandt from the website Donnerwetter.de predicts temperatures to rise by up to 20-25 degrees: from -10°C to +15°C across Germany in 72 hours.
Synoptics predict that on Thursday 30th December thermometers will indicate 10 ° C over the Baltic Sea and in Berlin. On Friday, the last day of the year, the temperature in the German capital can rise up to 14 ° C. In Munich it is expected to be 13°C, in Hamburg 14°C and in Stralsund 10°C. However, it will be windy.
Karsten Brandt expects particularly strong winds on Tuesday in western and southern Germany and on Thursday on the North Sea coast and in Lower Saxony.
New Year’s Eve weather in Germany like in April
Meteorologist Dominik Jung of Wetter.net said temperatures on New Year’s Eve would be close to those recorded in early April: “In the Northeast it was minus 17 degrees. Now temperatures will rise to plus 15 degrees.”
The last time Germany experienced such a sharp change in temperature was in February 2021. First frost and snow, then suddenly 22 degrees Celsius!
And what will it be like now? Meteorologist Brandt predicts that temperatures will remain between 5°C and 10°C until January 7.
