Bayern Munich footballer Robert Lewandowski has ended his partnership with Huawei, his sponsor. The Chinese technology company allegedly helped Russia secure its network against cyber attacks after the invasion of Ukraine. “We have taken the decision today to end Robert Lewandowski’s marketing cooperation with the Huawei brand,” Lewandowski’s adviser Tomasz Zawiślak told AFP news agency on Monday.
Zawiślak said that “the performance of all advertising services on our part” will be suspended, but did not give an official reason for the decision. As reported by Polish media, the decision is directly related to the reports of the British Daily Mail: according to reports, Huawei was supposed to help Russia repel attacks by pro-Ukrainian hackers.
“You have to support Ukraine”

The company confirmed to AFP agency the termination of its cooperation with Lewandowski. Moreover, the Polish branch of Huawei dismissed the press reports as false news.
The Polish representative has already manifested against Russia’s aggression in an away match against Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of February, donning the captain’s armband in the national colors of Ukraine. “We cannot accept what is happening there and we have to support Ukraine,” – he said at the time.
