Germany: Diesel prices higher than petrol

Fuel prices in Germany continue to rise sharply. Diesel is now more expensive than gasoline: nationwide, a liter of Super E10 fuel cost an average of 1.965 euros on Sunday, AvD reported on Monday. That represents an increase in gasoline prices of up to 15 percent. Diesel was even two cents more expensive than Super at €1.984 – so its price has risen by 16 per cent.

The price of crude oil has also been rising steadily and is now over $105 per barrel. The price is expected to rise to at least $110 per barrel in the near future.

Fuel prices in Germany continue to rise

According to AvD in its press release, the main reason for the surge in fuel and oil prices is the war between Ukraine and Russia. However, related concerns about supply failures also continue to push up prices at gas stations.

At the moment, motorists cannot expect prices to fall at German gas stations, it reads. The club even assumes that fuel prices will continue to rise.

Many German drivers refuel in Poland

Since gasoline is currently much cheaper abroad – such as in Poland – than in Germany, some drivers are considering filling up at foreign gas stations. AvD explains that this diversion is really only sensible and cheaper in exceptional cases. This is because a long trip also uses a lot of fuel.

There is also an upper limit for spare canisters. A maximum of 200 liters of diesel and 20 liters of gasoline can be stored in special fuel canisters – in small garages. Certain precautions must also be observed when transporting fuel canisters.
