Census 2022 in Germany: Here’s how to recognize if you’re dealing with a real countryman

In general, you should be cautious when dealing with strangers who suddenly knock on your door. However, some visits are justified, such as those related to the conduct of this year’s census in Germany.

Interviewers have a special badge

However, visits by interviewers made as part of the census are never unannounced. According to the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden, the relevant persons will be informed in advance in writing about the visit of the census enumerator.

The notice specifies the date and specific time period as well as the contact details of the interviewer. In addition, interviewers do not make direct contact by telephone.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, interviewers always present an ID at the door. It is only valid in conjunction with an official photo ID.

The 2022 Census will provide data relevant to making many key decisions

Generally, the 2022 Census will not ask questions about bank information or income.

All questions are published in a sample form on the census website.

As of May 15, some 100,000 interviewers are involved in conducting Census 2022 interviews in homes across Germany. Through the interviews, they are expected to obtain information on how many people live in Germany, where they are employed, and how many housing units there are, among other things. The survey is supposed to provide a basis for making important decisions about the future of the country.
